Notes from Jari
Hello Leaders,
It's cookie time again and everyone seems to be doing very well with their troop's sales. The paperwork has all been turned-in to Maria "on time" and we're right on schedule to have a great Cookie Sale. Keep up the good work! Cookies should be arriving on February 17th, so please keep that date open (if at all possible) to assist with organizing the cases and sorting individual troop orders. Lots of help makes a big job go much quicker.
The date for the Thinking Day event has been changed to Sunday, February 25th at the Mohave Valley Elementary School gym. The event will run from 5PM to 7PM. The gym will be opened at 4PM for setup and we will have about an hour afterward for cleanup. Unfortunately, our wonderful event organizer, Grace, will be out of town for most of that day and may not be able to attend. So…if your troop hasn't yet signed up for a country or if you have any questions, please give me a call at 768-1569.
Take care,
Jari
Thoughts on Volunteering
When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left and could say, "I used everything you gave me." Author: Erma Bombeck
Balloon Volleyball Game
Extend a length of rope across the center of a large area in your meeting place. Set up teams on each side and hit a balloon back and forth over the rope.
Teams score when the balloon lands on the opposite side of the floor.
Lollipop Valentines to Make and Give
Hearts: Fold red or pink construction paper, then cut a heart just larger than your lollipop (leave the cellophane wrapper on). Write a message (Be Mine, Happy Valentine's Day & etc.) on the heart. Glue the heart over the lollipop. Fold green construction paper and cut leaves, leaving the fold intact. Wrap the leaf around the stick of the lollipop, gluing the 2 sides of the leaf together with the fold against the stick.
Butterflies: Fold a bright color of construction paper, then cut half a butterfly shape, leaving the fold intact. Decorate the butterfly with markers or glitter and/or write a message across the wings (Fly Away With Me Valentine). Cut two small slits across the lower part of the butterfly and insert the stick of the lollipop into the butterfly.
Valentine Cookies in an Instant
Bake from scratch or slice & bakes or purchase sugar cookies. Make a delicious "paint" by stirring 1 Tbsp. lemon juice into 1 cup confectioner's sugar until smooth. Using a small, clean paint brush, paint designs on sugar cookies, and while still wet, sprinkle with colored sugar. Let dry before serving.
Enjoy Chocolate Without the Guilt
Chocolate may have properties you are not aware of:
Longevity: chocolate eaters are more likely to live longer than abstainers
Pleasure: chocolate affects areas of the brain that trigger heightened senses and feelings of well-being
Protection: chocolate improves your antioxidant defenses against cancer and stresses such as air pollution, smoking and UV radiation, plus cocoa powder contains antioxidants which rival those in anti-ulcer drugs
Cardiovascular Health: cocoa powder extract helps prevent oxidation of LDL (bad) cholesterol
Note: Cocoa powder contains twice the antioxidants as dark chocolate and milk chocolate rates 3rd in benefits.
Warning: Chocolate should be consumed in moderation, not as a substitute for the ingredients needed for a healthy diet (like fruits and vegetables).
Bring Cheer to Others
Be generous with praise and encouragement. Sincere comments spread love and confidence and goodwill all year.
Give extra hugs. They warm both body and soul anytime they're given.
